Haswell i5-4670K 4.0GHz to 4.2GHz - worth it?

I ran some tests and benchmarks with 4.0GHz and 4.2GHz OCs. The 4.2 OC is just 4% faster than the first one, but runs over 10 degrees hotter. Is it really worth it to push it to 4.2GHz, if all I do is gaming?

Depends on how good of an aftermarket cooler you are using.

Thermalright TRUE Spirit 120M(BW) Rev.A. Max temp @4.0GHz is <70c, @4.2GHz it may be over 80c.

Will I even notice an FPS boost with a +200MHz bump in the OC?

probably not much of one IMHO, but you can try it and see exactly how hot it runs and if the performance increase is worth it to you.

Here's a little performance/temps spreadsheet I made for both stock and overclock settings.

I think I'll go with the 4.0GHz OC, since I would be sacrificing 15% of temps for a marginal 4% performance gain. Thanks for the help!

EDIT: Last line in 'Speed comparison' should be "Set 2 runs 4% faster than Set 1!"
