My problem - I can't get any wireless adapters to work with my Vista 64 machine. It's a ~3-year-old Cyberpower desktop, Vista-64 Home basic, Intel quad-core, 8 GB RAM. With each wireless adapter I've tried, the drivers will install correctly and the device will work properly - at least according to Device Manager. However, when I search for wireless networks, none are even seen (my WRT54G is one room over), and Windows diagnostics tells me my wireless adapter is having hardware/driver problems. I've seen this problem occasionally in my forum searches over the last few days but found no solutions.

Am I missing something like a Vista setting I need to tweak, to allow the adapters to work properly? Or am I better off setting up a wireless bridge??

Thanks in advance for any help!

Try restarting the router and then your PC. You should be able to see wireless networks after doing that.

Thanks for the input, but I'm waaaaaay past the point of reboots fixing my problem - that's the first thing I did after the hardware didn't work the first time.

I actually ended up bypassing the problem with a Netgear powerline adapter, which I'd never used before: http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/powerli...

It actually worked much better than I anticipated! I'm connected to my Linksys WRT54G and getting pings of 12ms and download/upload of ~ 13 / 1 Mbps from my cable connection.
