Hi guys,
I'm about to build my new rig and the main pieces of hardware are a Gigabyte h87n-wifi for its WiDi compatibility, asus gtx 780 directcu ii oc and either of the cpus mentioned in the title...

I've checked and the motherboard has supported the xeon cpu since the first bios release.

the only difference between these 2 cpus is that the 4770 has a clock only 100mhz higher than the 1230v3. and most importantly, the xeon is 50 euros cheaper.

So what do you suggest I buy? Should I save those 50 euros? would I notice any difference in gaming - except for the 100mhz difference? (this rig is for video editing purposes too)

No difference really. The Xeon would likely produce a little less heat and use a little less power. The 4770 has a limited locked multiplier so it can be technically overclocked a little bit, whereas the Xeon is completely locked (unless you'd like to overclock using BCLK).

I'd take the Xeon, and I'm looking at getting one myself.

As both CPUs are very similar in performance, but with the Xeon having a lower TDP and much cheaper price, you may as well go for that. You won't notice a performance difference between the two.
