Need some clarification regarding my second monitor...

Hello everyone! So here's my problem:

I have a Radeon HD 7870 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161411) graphics card which has a DVI port, HDMI port, and two Mini Display ports. Currently I have it hooked up to my Acer monitor via a VGA to DVI adapter.

I have this second old monitor (Compaq MV920) that has been sitting in storage for a while now and I thought I'd like to use it to have an extended desktop, but it also uses a VGA cable so I would need to convert it to either HDMI or Mini Display. I spent a good portion of today seeing what adapter I would need to make that happen, however, I feel like I'm getting a lot of conflicting responses and I don't really know what I need to buy.

My questions ultimately are: what adapter should I be getting to hook my old monitor up for an extended display? Is either HDMI or Mini Display alright, or should I be looking at a specific one? Any advice would be great thank you, and if any additional information is required then please let me know.
