Hello everyone! I am completely new to overclocking and yesterday I attempted my first overclock.

I am running an i7 3770k, cooled by Cooler Master V8 (air cooling) on an Asus P8P67Evo with Kingston PnP 16GB(2x8) Memory @ 1866Ghz.

My first overclock attempt was @ 4.5Ghz with Vcore @ 1.3V. I tested with Intel Burn Test (10 tests on High settings) and it was stable BUT my temps where hitting 92˚C. I was completely scared and right after then stress test I went to the BIOS and loaded defaults :p

My second overclock attempt was just raising the multiplier to 42 without changing any other setting. Again I tested with Intel Burn Test (10 tests on High settings and 10 tests on Extreme settings), the system was again stable. Now the computer is running prime95 (12 hours have passed already) and it is still stable.

I am not happy with the 4.2Ghz though, I want more. Will I be able to get more speed with my current cooler? If yes what settings do you recommend (I am all in for trying anything that will not ruin my CPU :p ). Should I play with other settings appart from multiplier and Volts?

Thanks in advance for your help guys!! I hope that with your help I will be able to achieve my goal (4.5Ghz) or at least get close to it! :)

the cooler is not the best, i think to be able to get 4,5Ghz you should get a better cooler, 92 degrees are a little high, and even the cheap budget cooler 212 EVO is like 10-15degrees better than your current

Could you please recommend some settings for my current setup as I am unable to purchase new hardware at the moment :(

just use a lower overclock until you can get get a better cooler if you insist on going 4,5Ghz, but the difference between 4,2 and 4,5 is close to none, and i would recommend getting a z87 mobo as well when you can afford it, those are the best mobo's for overclocking

right, anyway lower the overclock until you can get get a better cooler if you insist on going 4,5Ghz, but the difference between 4,2Ghz and 4,5Ghz is close to none, i use 4,4Ghz myself with my 4670k, and the difference gaming wise is like 3fps, so little difference does overclocking make, you know that overclocking is normally meant to be used if CPU is bottlenecking your GPU

and to answer your question about multiplier and volts, those are the only things needed to be changed

I am using my computer for video editing apart from gaming that is why I needed higher overclocking :) I know about the fps in gaming factor :D Thanks for the info. How about the CPU spectrum etc? I do not need to change this? everything else should be on default?

only change multiplier/ratio whatever it's called in your bios and voltage
