Do SATA and PATA play nice in the optical drive arena?

I have a Dell 5150 the mobo has only two SATA ports, which I'm using for hard drives. There is a PATA port which is used for the dual optical drives on cable select.

One of the optical drives doesn't work and I bought a replacement SATA optical drive. I also got a "USB 2.0 To SATA/IDE 2.5" 3.5" HDD Hard Disk Drive PC Rom Adapter Converter Cable" so I can get an additional SATA port via a USB 2 socket.

My question is will there be any conflict between the two optical devices? Should I change the remaining PATA drive to slave or master?

...Oh, the answer is yes, they do play nice, ... and the remaining PATA drive needs to be set to master.
