Hello, i have a question on the temps i get from my processor.

I just completed my build last night.
NZXT Phantom, 1 front intake, 1 top exhaust, 1 rear exhaust
M5A99X Evo R.2.0
FX-8320 with Noctua nh-d14
Asus R9 270X
8GB G.Skill Ares 1866
Seasonic M12II

I just ran Prime 95 for only 10 minutes, but according to AI Suite II my CPU temps were floating between 48 and 49 degrees C. Is this really high for my cooler? I expected it to be lower.

I know it was only 10 minutes of test, but that still just seems high. Correct me if i am wrong please. I do not know ambient temps of my room exactly, but i would guess mid to high 60's.

Also at idle, just downloading a steam game right now, it's sitting at 30C.
Any thoughts?

sounds like you are seeing the socket temp, not the core temp. there are two temps an even ai suite reports the socket temp, not the core temp.

use something like openhardware monitor or something and you will see package temp, which is your temp. it normal idles very low (10c) which is a lie, but it's the way it reports it. under load it ramps up to real temps and the max for the cores is 65c. The socket temp max is 75c.

I find they are usually always around 10c difference between the 2 under load, so if your socket is 50c, your cpu is usually 40c. use a different monitoring program though.

Ok, i have installed openhardware monitor. Without running the stress, test, my initial temps for the Core #1, well it fluctuates between 10 and 20C for the value column, and 23.1C for the max column. Looks better lol

Can you provide me with any other insight on reading my temps please? I appreciate your response, thank you :)

when in low power mode, the temps aren't that accurate hence the 10c. lol. When it gets up to about 30 or so, then it's accurate. Just keep it below the 75/65 limit and you'll be fine. Unless you start doing some big overclocking, you probably won't hit anywhere near those. it's when you start to get near 4.6ghz like on my overclock, that I need a fan on the back of my motherboard to keep the VRM's and the socket temp cool.

Ok, so i should switch out from low power mode? How do i do that?

Also i have been running Prime again for a few minutes and the max bumped up to 29.3C Is that a number that is accurate? My Value number is still going crazy which i take it has to do with my power setting?

So i am running a new session of Prime 95 and i have not messed with any settings. However, now the value column is a nice steady number of 29C. It is not fluctuating.

Sound normal and OK?
