Discussion of Pirated Software

It has always been my understanding that Tom's Hardware did not countenance discussion of pirated software. Accordingly I reported such a discussion (http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2030216/screen... ) referring to an illegal torrented download of OS X. Now, I know that the report has been seen by a moderator because I also reported that it was a double-post. The double-post has been removed but the thread asking for help with this software remains.

Please note that this is entirely different from discussion of installation of legally purchased copies of OS X on non-Apple hardware. Although a grey area it is not something that I believe should not be discussed. (Although it is rather dominating the OS X forum nowadays.) But the software being discussed here is an illegal copy; we are not talking about legitimately purchased software.

I'm afraid that I hold very strong views about the rights and wrongs of copyright protection and, regretfully, I don't feel that I can remain an active member of a community that tolerates its use.

It could be that a various mods have various tasks. Mod A could handle removing duplicate posts, while Mod B has to interpret the forum rules and make the decision on thread contents.

That does sound strange, even if the Mod in question was unsure I would have thought the thread would have been taken down while being investigated.
Considering how antsy they are around here if anyone even asks a question concerning a product key.
I know nothing about Niresh but know enough about you Ijack to take you on your word that it is what you say it is.

I also don't know about time frames, how long its been (never could trust Toms time stamps) if you tried recontacting the same Mod ?

They are human though and mistakes can be made.
Have you tried PMing Joe ?
It seems to me that strong views or not you should at least exhaust your options before you quit. You may have done all this already and I am hardly one to lecture about not letting beliefs/views cloud your judgement...
Just my 2 cents as it were

Mac :)

Your concern was raised in the Mod forum, though I think the particular mod who responded wasn't sure if you thought that Hackintosh'ing was outright illegal and was reporting that rather than the source of the OS. The standing policy is that Hackintosh discussion is allowed so long as the OS is sourced legally, so we just left the thread as is.

Now that you have pointed out that the OS has been obtained illegally, I'l take down the thread and deal with the OP.

Piracy is indeed not countenanced on Tom's Hardware. Discussion of what one does with legally purchased software is.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Ijack.

Thank you. Clearly just a misunderstanding.

A separate, but related issue; I do wonder - considering that the only legal way to get the latest version of OS X is if you own Apple hardware - if it is time to have a review of the discussion of Hackintoshes. Apart from anything else, it does create a lot of noise in that forum and the only useful advice is normally to point people to other sites (which is already done in a sticky).
