Hi, I am building my PC and I was wondering what is reasonably the best single monitor GPU for gaming. Obviously you would be able to go better but without massive over kill what is the best (770, 780, 290X etc).
770 is fine for 1080p, if you want everything 60+ maxed I would go for a 780.
What about the R9 290? It's substantially cheaper where I live, would I achieve the same sort of results.
Both Cards are neck and neck. The regular R9 290 is almost identical in performance to the 770. The R9 290x beats the 770 by a small amount. This is more of a preference. I myself am a Nvidia man and my 770 allows me to max out BF4 with zero issues, even at 200% Resolution on a single monitor 1080p. Honestly you would even by fine with something lesser which is probably cheaper than all of those.
