Hi all,

I wanted to see if anyone knew if it was possible to install windows on my SSD without purchasing an adapter such as this:

http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Easy-Laptop-Install-2-5-i...

Also, my computer has no optical drive. I could care less about moving over the current documents because the computer is brand new, I just need to somehow get Windows ported over to the new SSD. THANKS!

So your new SSD is already connected to your lap top? computer? and you wanna install a Windows OS on it?
But your windows is on a CD and that your laptop have no Optical Drive?
Or you basically want your Windows OS installed on your HDD on your new computer and transfer it into your new SSD to make it a boot drive?

Sorry I kind of don't get the whole problem....

If your installing a Windows OS from a CD but you have no Optical Drive:

An alternative is turning your window's CD into an ISO and install it via USB but you need a another PC that has an optical drive so that you can turn your windows CD copy into an ISO.

Other way is to basically have a portable Optical drive where you can connect it via USB. Basically connecting the Portable Op.Drive putting your Windows CD inside it then install it from there.

IF you have a new computer but the OS is installed on an HDD and you want to migrate it together with the files into the new SSD:

You just have to buy that adapter,

Or if you had a Samsung 840 Evo SSD, <- this SSD comes with magician software that will transfer your OS and files from an HDD to the SSD.

So I have my new laptop with the HDD still in it. I will install soon but wanted to see how I would get Windows onto the new SSD. I found this:

http://www.guidingtech.com/10026/create-bootable-window...

About making a USB bootable sub. If I make this bootable usb, install the SSD, then plug the usb in and boot up - will it start installing Windows?

Thanks!

Yes thats right. Just remember to make sure bios boots from USB first. Then after install change it back so it boots windows from your freshly installed SSD.
edit:actually, after install, your OS will recognise the new SSD as primary boot drive automatically (assuming there is no other drive with windows on it)

First plug in the USB boot device--------> restart----------hit whatever F key to Go into BIOS-------->Find boot order setting-------->pick "boot from USB/Removable Drive"-------> save and restart.
The rest is automatic.

Its in the BIOS, sometimes there's a hotkey such as Win+B at the loading screen.
