Ok you are all my peeps and I need your help out in the techy world out there! I tried a million options but cant get my BIOS to boot Steam OS from my 8GB USB to my 256GB SSD. Please help me I just want to mess with Steam OS and such. I want to physically see its progress as time goes on. All my system specs are in my signature section. The darn Asus Rampage IV Extreme won't boot the USB no matter what I try. Says it is not a proper boot device even though I have formatted it for FAT32 and I have extracted all the Steam files from the SteamISOImage.zip to it! Any help at all would be great! Oh and yes I did rename the USB "SYSRESTORE" when I formatted it also!

According to http://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussi... the most recent ISO containing BIOS support (rather than just UEFI support) can be found here http://repo.steampowered.com/download/SteamOSDVD.iso
Also for dual-boot, and partitioning help can be found here https://github.com/directhex/steamos-installer and so it might be a better solution for you.

You may have to do a full format rather than a quick format of the drive.

You're the best! Yes I do want to have one storage device with Steam and one with Windows after I'm done so thanks a ton! Since you said full format how would I go about that? All the tutorials say quick format and to top it all off Win7 doesn't have a full format option so how do I go about doing so?

You're going to kick yourself; when you're in windows when you right click to format, you have to uncheck quick format. It will take a while to complete.

UPDATE 3/10/2014:
Hey Cyber-Freak, in case you're still tracking this thread I recentaly got around to trying the full format and the custom install file from Steam but still a no go. Although one of the links you provided did have an ISO file of SteamOS and I am hoping to try this real soon hopefully this weekend! An IT friend gave me a blank DVD and I am going to try the ISO out hopefully friday. Expect an update and this thread may be used to help answer questions from others having trouble installing Steam. For those whos BIOS isn't working well with it.
