my laptop is 14 inches 1366x768 res and i want to use an external monitor of 24 inches with 1080p to play games and watch movies. What about the performance when I play game on external monitor only with 1080p res? And I usually get 100+ fps on my laptop when playing dota 2. I only intend to play dota 2 and watch movie on external monitor. So will I be OK? Should I buy the external monitor? Please advice me....:-)

To expand a little LCD Screens (back-lit with LED) typically run at 60 or 75 or 100 Hz, (120hz 240hz 480hz, 600hz for HDTV)

So unless you turn off Vsync anything over the refresh rate is typically a waste of FPS as the Screen is limited.
The only potential benefits of faster fps are less screen jitter and smother turning in games. although the refresh rate in MS is likely more important.

Screen tearing is common in mismatched configs and turning on Vsync fixes this.

So For movies Perfect
For Games Should be fine if your getting 100+ fps - even on a higher res screen

I use a 46" TV as my screen its only a low 60hz and works perfectly for Movies and Games
