Hi. I have a Gigabyte HD7850 2GB OC.
GPU clock : 975mhz
Memory clock: 1200mhz

Normal editions of this card has 860mhz/1200mhz, lower Texture Fillrate and pixel fill rate. ( I heard they clock higher than mine)

The max overclock i can get with this card from AMD overdrive or other softwares are 1050mhz/1450mhz. (wont let me go any higher, no option)

so i was curious about it, and I did it. Maxed it out and played Farcry 3, and it was smoother than before (I think). Fraps reported 60-70fps. nothing below 60 though.

So my questions are,
1) Will I burn the GPU using those value's?
2) Am I imagining an increase in performance?
3) Why wont it let me go any higher?
4) Should I use a bios flash to remove the restrictions?

FYI: I did not bump up the voltage, Its on stock.
max temps were normal like I never OC'd. 41C Max.
Fan Speed 40%

other info: I am using a Samsung LED TV 32" instead of a Monitor. sometimes I am restricted to using 1366x768 resolution. (most games). So, I am not sure if i need to OC while using 1366x768.

1. As long as your voltage (shouldn't be, since you didn't raise it at all) and temps aren't too high, you're fine. OCing does degrade the life of a component, but most of the time, you don't use the component long enough to notice.

2. Maybe. Why not try some benchmarks?

3. Because that's what the OC programs limit you to. You can try MSI Afterburner with unofficial overclocking: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=338906

4. You could, but personally, I wouldn't. If you screw up, you've got a dead card.

You don't really need over 60 FPS because I'm betting your TV has a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

Thanks for the reply ihog.
I have not touched the Voltage control. also, I installed every OC'ing software that I know (4) all of them show the same value's.
I have seen a screen shot somewhere else which was higher, but it was a standard card, not an OC edition. I think it was an HIS card.
okay maybe no bios flash then.
Yes the TV is only 60HZ.
I benched and max temps gets to 43.
I will bench to see if there is any significant increase in performance.

I dont think there will be because all i did was increase the Memory clock from 1200 to 1450. core clock was a small increase from 975 to 1050, probably not even noticeable i guess.
