I have a laptop running Win 7 and its graphics card support resolution upto 1440x900. I need an external graphics card that would allow me to connect a 24' display with a resolution of 1920x1200. What would you suggest for a budget of 50$ ?

Edit: 1920x1080 would also be OK.

Are you sure? Have you tried plugging a monitor into whatever output your laptop has and running the bigger monitor off of it? It should work. 1440x900 is probably just the resolution of the built in monitor.

yes however if your computer simply cant output more then 1440*900 that wont solve it as it is a DISPLAY ADDAPTER meaning its still limted by your graphics as opposed to a new GRAPHICS CARD

Yes, presently I have a 19' monitor connected as my main display. When I look up in the control panel (list all displays menu) I find 1440x900 as the max resolution that the internal graphics card can support. Here I attach a screenshot. Am I looking at the correct place ?

Most 19" monitors are 1440x900. I think it's just picking up the res of the monitor you are attaching. Try a 1080/1200 monitor and see if you can use it. I'm sure you can. Even the ancient FX5200 could use 1920x1080.

Tried 22' monitor of my colleague working at 1920*1080 but its a no-go. Once connected to my laptop, graphic properties showed max 1300 something which even less than my current 19" monitor. Graphics card on my laptop is Intel HD graphics. Seems Im stuck with a 19" monitor...
