I currently own a 4 year old rig, whose specs are as follows:

1st gen i7 920
8 gigs of RAM
XFX HD 5850
Corsair TX850
MSI X58A Motherboard
500 GB 7200rpm SATA HDD

problem is , the GPU is showing signs of aging. It probably has lived up its lifetime, and i keep getting computer crashes , and blue/black/red/striped screens while gaming, followed by a BSOD. Closer inspection revealed that if i open up the box and fudge the GPU around a lil bit, it sometimes recovers, and at other times goes blank. I have finally decided to go mobile, and keep the desktop for light stuff only, but am unable to decide an upgrade path:

I have chosen the following laptop as an option:
http://www.flipkart.com/lenovo-ideapad-y510p-59-389687-laptop-4th-gen-ci5-8gb-1tb-win8-2gb-graph/p/itmdstxzmjmqwzhk?pid=COMDSTXHU8WB8UVZ&otracker=from-search&srno=t_2&query=y510p&ref=51521385-efef-42fe-837b-810a92eeca3b

Its a Lenovo y510p with a gt755m, haswell i5 and a 5400 rpm hard drive (better ones not available in my country unfortunately)

Can we consider this computer as an upgrade to my previous one ?

Or are their any other suggestions towards an upgrade ?

The 5850 is better than 755m. Is not very fair to compare since one graphic card belongs to a laptop. So, no it won't be an upgrade in graphics. If want to upgrade desktop graphic card give me a price range and I can help.

Its not about updating the desktop card, I am considering moving into a mobile platform now, desktop keeps me tied down to my house too much. So I just want to think that does my gaming take too much of a hit if I buy this laptop, cuz if it does then I would choose to buy a new GPU.
