Hey guys just wanted to start a simple thread just to see if anyone has heard of any new news or updates about the SteamOS recently.

One thing I do know that I read about last month is the Steam Music Player!

Anyone here anything else as far as such new updates or upcoming updates for SteamOS or anything of the sort?

As of now it won't even support most of the games available on steam, because it's a linux os. I for one think Nvidia Shield is a much better concept. You can stream from your pc to a handheld device to play. Why would anyone want to own two computers to stream from one to another?

Well I think it would be nice to have one solid OS to run in a dual boot or a virtual machine for PC gaming. If devs get behind this which at the moment seems like they will they will only have to create games for the SteamOS for PC gamers. This means more compatibility for us down the road. This also means less complication later and devs are lazy so 1 dedicated OS to PC gaming means SIGNIFICANTLY LESS WORK! That's really what they care about.

Plus it's only a matter of time until they get better installation support such as dual boot and virtual machines. As far as the Steam Machines go I don't really care about them unless it's that one person who wants a great gaming PC with SteamOS but doesn't want to build it. I am very interested in a Linux OS that will mainstream for gaming sice Windows is HORRIBLE and incredibly inconsistent. I swear I never had more errors or updates in life. I have checked over linus distros and they are fantastic!

I would like the same performance for gaming. Plus there is no saying how far this goes too. I mean just like other Linux distros you could see Office Tools equivelants on the desktop half of SteamOS and they are already aware they need support for apps such as Netflix for example! I am just curious to know if anyone else out there knows what else is Steam preparing for their OS! Now that doesn't mean I don't understand how you feel at the moment I know Linux only has about 200-300 titles none of which are really new gen games like Assassins Creed, Batman, etc. In time I am confident they will hence the purpose of a dedicated OS! I am however incredibly curious as to when they will make a release of the Valve controller (Steam gamepad compatible with all Steam games whether they have had controller support or not) I hear summer but then sometimes I hear Fall?

Sounds like you know all the news, although a lot of it sounds like wishful thinking. How 'bout that Half Life 3?

LOL! Yea I guess I had high hopes for the possibility to find out perhaps any info that somehow who knows someone might know. There doesn't seem to be much traffic on this part of Toms I guess. I don't know about the wishful thinking part though I mean from what I have noticed for Linux in the past year it seems like a lot of support is going out. I am just hoping that since SteamOS' desktop is Debian (GNOME) based and what not I am wondering if perhaps the SteamOS will see support faster than the usual Linux distro or not?! Anyhow I guess this thread is totally dead heck Steam hasn't even given a solid date on the release of the gamepad nevertheless the OS haha! I guess high hopes is the only reason I started this.
