Why not start a new place wheree people can discuss systems - for example,
Gaming Build for £400 or
Workstation Powerhouse £1200
These would be completed builds that people can recommend to others.

I believe there's also a quarterly (?) competition for recommended cookie-cutter builds.

Systems is the absolute best spot to discuss builds. And BestConfigs is our bi-annual breakdown of most popular builds available for the price within a given category. You won't get any better advice for your time and effort than here in the community.

Yes but most of the systems thread is full of "Will my rig play BF4 at ultra" type stuff.

Anywhere you put it, that kind of stuff will happen. People will post where other people are, and no matter how well you label it as being 'for x', people won't read the stickies and will still post stuff about 'make me a $500 build'.

The other issue I have is that those builds are never up to date - it doesn't take much for a GPU to go out of stock, or for RAM prices to change. Particularly with the whole Litecoin drama.
