Anything free will be brought to it's knees in a matter of moments. St. Cloud, Florida offered free WiFi for all of it's residents and spent $4Million for the roll out and my boss predicted that the A holes of the world would bring it down. In a matter of months it slowed to slower than dial up.
FYI-I'm a well versed in Wi-Fi technology and was in charge of all wireless traffic for all wireless customers in our Wireless ISP. I knew the strengths and weaknesses of the Motorola Canopy System being used for land based systems.
Here is why it is so expensive for in air communications.
I have friends that work at SAT- COM (the best private jet internet/phone communication company worldwide) saying that one customer's bill was $750,000 for one months service due to downloading films and yakking away on the phone on less than 20 trip across the country(USA) and into south America in their $50Million G550.
In air communication is expensive, providing worldwide free internet using it, that's a pipe dream!
