Hey all,

Hoping to get your help. I need to upgrade from 4g to 8gb of RAM. I am fine with throwing away my 2x2gb RAM sticks. I currently have:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

My motherboard is:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=...

Stuck between these 4 types of RAM:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
(these two roughly the same) -- and these two:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Assuming price is not a factor, and I HAVE to choose between these four:

1) Do all four work with my motherboard? As far as I know, they do, but I don't know as much as you guys, so please confirm.
2) If so, which is the best? I am assuming the blue G.Skill based on CAS latency and timing.

If you guys can please advise, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thank you gentlemen! (and ladies!)

I'd go with one of the Ripjaws sets, both are 1.5 sets, the other two are 1.65 (no need for that much voltage in a entry 1600 set of DRAM, and either should be fine with your mobo

Is one better than the other ? I am trying to choose the best one

The M set is the better of the two - (blue set - F3-12800CL8D-8GBXM), it runs at CL8 vs the slower CL9 of the L set

No worries, let us know what you decide and how you like them ;)

Decided on the blue set due to higher SPECS, better latency and CAS

Always good things to look for, let us know when you get them ;)

Got the blue ripjaw ram, replaced old ram, now my PC won't boot. It turns on, but nothing displays, and the lights on my keyboard or mouse don't come up. No idea whats going on. Anyone have any idea? In my research -- and your feedback --- the blue ripjaw should work -- any idea why it isn't? Please help! If this needs to be returned it will probably have to be done soon

Is it because my old ram was 10666 and this is 12800?

My mobo says this for memory:

Memory
4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 16 GB of system memory (Note 1)
Dual channel memory architecture
Support for DDR3 1666(OC)/1333/1066 MHz memory modules

The new memory I bought is 12800 , not 1666,1333, or 1066. Does that mean this new RAM won't work? Wish I had known before I bought it :(

Do you have the latest BIOS? if not, get that and try, if already have it, try with 1 stick in slot 1, raise DRAM voltage to 1.55 and set CPU/NB voltage to 1.18, save, shutdown then add 2nd stick to slot 3 and give it a try

I do have the latest BIOS. The problem is with the new memory in, there is no display, so I cannot access the BIOS to raise the DRAM voltage. I've tried 1 memory stick (of the new memory) in the slot, but it does not boot.

How about in slot 2? Tried resetting CMOS?
March 26, 2014 7:04:07 PM

Took the CMOS battery out, left it out 15sec, put it back in. No luck. Going to try each RAM slot. Are we 100% sure the RAM and mobo are compatible?
March 26, 2014 7:48:06 PM

Tried each RAM slot -- no luck. Interesting enough, placed 2 original RAM sticks in + 2 new RAM sticks. It worked but only showed 4gb of RAM (my original 2 sticks) -- didnt even register the new 8gb, after about 2mins it BSODd to IRQ_not_less_than_or_equal

Any ideas guys? Can I use the working RAM to go into the BIOS and change things, then turn off and put in the new RAM? I looked in the BIOS and found a way to change it to 12800, but it said it was for my CPU memory, not my RAM...

Should be fine, they should default to the mobos default then you would set 1600 from there, what CPU? do you have the latest BIOS?
March 27, 2014 6:14:19 AM

I do have the latest BIOS for my motherboard, even updated to the most recent (2012, though) beta version. Getting nothing when place either 1 or 2 of the RAM sticks in ANY of the ram slots --- any idea? Not at home now, but I have an AMD Phenom Quad-core

What CPU model #? Do you have the latest BIOS loaded for the mobo?
