research project: user preferences in software help documentation
Hi everyone, I’m working on my master thesis, in which I want to find out where software users want to find the information they are looking for (PDF, online help, forum etc).
The way it currently goes is that most technical writers for software help documentation work according to best practices, but they don’t always know where their specific audience prefer to look for help. This ranges from “What does this button do?” to “How do I best do this task?” My finished dissertation should ideally give some advice to authors how to distribute the information they need to bring across. For this I need a lot of completed questionnaires, because the more there are, the more reliable the results will be.
