LCD goes blank after 2 seconds of display, Green light remains on

when I plug my LG Flatron LCD (L1718S) inch monitor(D-sub) with a VGA cable into my desktop(i3) onboard graphics , I see the display for about 2 seconds.then it goes blank however the green light remains on???
Is it:
* a dry join/solder
*Wrong cable
*Monitor going into power saving mode
*Windows driver missing
*blown capacitor
???? please help

I have had the problem that it will just automatically go to sleep. It might be related, but probably not...
1. Try the cables, are they loose? ( you have probably checked this already).
2. This was what solved my problem. My screen went blank because the screen resolution was set too high for the monitor (could only run 720p). I solved it by connecting it to my full hd TV and change back the resolution. After that the screen worked fine again =). You could give it a shot, although the chances are quite small.
