Issue with tracked threads not dropping of the 'notifications' list

I am using Firefox 27.0.1.
Prior to today, when I viewed a link in my notifications list at the top right, the link would no longer appear on the list and links I hadn't yet viewed would take its place.
Today, none of the notifications links are dropping off the list after I click the link to view a particular notification. As a result, my notifications are never updated.

Hello ubercake (i like your name),
We had an incident with the management of notifications (blue flags and the related e-mail generation) between 7:00 and 9:00 ET. It's back to normal now. If your counter is at 0, a logout/login should solve the problem and put your counter back to normal.
Let me know if you're having any other problem.

My counter always sticks at 1, even if I have no notifications. It has done so for the past couple of months or so.Did this message make it move to 2?
Did you get a notification (email) for it and activate the "be warned of thread updates
Did you Log out and back in again ?
We probably hâve a counting problem if you read a flaggedt hread during the problem
Let me know, your answer will help us fix your problem and answer other users

Best solution
The usual fix for phantom notifications is to hit "mark all as read" on this page.
