Purpose for turning your monitor into portrait mode?

In portrait mode, the resolution of you monitor essentially becomes "inverted". Your 1920x1080 display will become 1080x1920. It is mostly useful to view documents, like pages, in full. Also could be used for web browsing, as you usually need more vertical space (scrolling...). Really, anything that would be more comfortable with more vertical than horizontal space.
