Hello,

Backlit keyboards are a necessity for me as a night-owl! Here are two suggestions for you:

Logitech Illuminated Keyboard K740

This one is my main keyboard. It is not technically mechanical, but is awesome nonetheless and the keys are solid and quiet. It's been used for gaming, transcription, media, and just about anything you can think of. One of it's best features is that the back-light has three levels of brightness. It's taken a lot of abuse and has given me zero problems. Only con (in my opinion) is that it's wired.

Here's another:
G710 Plus Mechanical Gaming Keyboard
This one is by the same company, although I haven't used it myself. It's both back-lit and mechanical. It's pricey, but the reviews are good so it's worth a look.

Good luck on the keyboard hunt!

Razer just released there new mechanical version of the Black Widow. I have the normal keyboard and love it, the keyboard is great has many cool functions. However the keyboard is quite expensive.

I agree with the other recommendations for the logitech keyboards and believe if you are in a budget to get on of them.

Oh ok! That makes sense, well if you don't live in Canada I would highly recommend Razer. Hope this has helped.

OP, question for you. Do you plan on pure gaming with this keyboard? Mechanical keyboards come with various cherry switches and you want to make sure you get the right cherry switch for you.

This site does a good job of explaining the difference kind of cherry switches:

If you plan on doing normal typing on top of gaming I suggest getting a keyboard with brown switches. The brown switchs are not as sensitive as the reds and they give a nice sound when fully pressed. And they are sensitive enough to where you need to press overly hard on the key for it to register. I just bought a Corsair Vengeance K70 with the cherry browns and i love it. I use it to game and normal typing duties. My fiance loves to game and type on it as well as she is in college and does a lot of typing. And she thinks the sounds the keys make when typing is pleasant. It also comes with replaceable WASD and the top numbers 1 through 6 keys with keys that are red and have a textured surface. Also the usb cable is braided and is thick and feels solid.

If this is strictly for gaming, the red switches seem to be all the rage.

I really enjoy it actually, feels solid and the extra keys are handy for MMO's also the backlight has 3 settings plus you can set it to just illuminate the WASD and the arrow keys including 1,2,3,4,5,6

!
