No SSL login?

I just noticed when logging in to the web site that there is no SSL encryption. When I attempted to force an SSL connection via https://www.tomshardware.com/community/login, I got the following error:

"An error occurred while processing your request.
Reference #97.e0bd817.1395802829.3e7835b3"

Does Tom's Hardware currently utilize SSL encryption for logging in to the forums and web site, and if not, do you plan on offering this option in the future?

I don't think so but you can double check by flushing your dns so you can clear your cookies and history. You can do this by ipconfig /flushdns in a command prompt. If you ever get to the Akamai page saying it's malicious its just chromes way of saying hey this website doesn't look like it has the right internet protocol address If you want a little bit more privacy you can trying configuring chrome her http://www.howtogeek.com/100361/how-to-optimize-google-... chrome is kind of dumb in a way because it will try to loud just about anything

We don't at current, but there may be plans for this on the horizon. We haven't received many requests for this as a feature (this being the first). But we'll take it into consideration.

It's not life or death, but I just feel significantly safer logging in via an SSL-secured connection as opposed to sending my username and password over the Internet in clear text. As a result, I just use a different password specifically for Tom's (as I probably should be doing with all of my logins, anyway), so that if it does somehow get intercepted, the person(s) intercepting it won't get the "keys to the castle," as it were. Really it's more of a "mind at ease" issue. I'm aware that SSL certificates are certainly not cheap, so I don't fault you guys for not having one. I appreciate the quick answer!

Same here. I would like to see SSL at some point.

You seem to have it enabled, but it's got the Akamai certificates on it.

At least use it for authentication and go straight to your own servers.
