Hello-,

1st time builder here. I want to build a PC that operates smoothly overall, with gaming in mind.

Here are the components I've chosen after a little over a week's research:

Cooler Master COSMOS SE ATX Mid Tower Case
Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z ATX AM3+ Motherboard
AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor
Corsair H100i 77.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Asus GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Samsung Spinpoint M8 1TB 2.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive
Corsair RM 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)

Am I better off with a sabertooth, or cheaper motherboard?

A Noctua or a 212 EVO CPU Cooler were my other choices. Price isn't a HUGE difference to me, but will I run into any problems with a H100i liquid cooler? Is it worth the risk of a closed loop water cooler to gain a decrease in cpu temp. (if any)? Seems like the liquid models take up less space around the motherboard, which improves airflow, right?

I had a hard time choosing a GPU, any tips for this type of setup are appreciated!

Please help, Friends!

-Andy

That is an excellent motherboard, but there are cheaper alternatives. If you can afford the Noctua cooler, that is definitely the way to go. The only real benefit to the liquid cooler is that it fits well in small spaces. That isn't a problem with your case. With the Noctua cooler, you have a cooler that will outlast the system.

thank you Terry

Is 1866 Ram something I should consider?

Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler

I really am new at this, I just want my CPU to stay as cool as possible.

that's imho the best air cooler out there atm, the nh-d14 is a really great choice

ATTENTION: if you are going with the noctua, you need ram with a lower profile
corsair have their venegance ram also in a "low profile" version, keep in mind to buy that one instead, the normal version won't fit under your cpu cooler (needs a little space over the ram slots)

the gtx 760 is a great card, but u said a few posts before that price isn't a huge concern, so if you want something that matches your overall build better, get the gtx 780, you will definitely not regret it

whats the difference between these 2 cards? well, look for yourself, it's self-explanatory ,-)

Thanks again, I will consider the 780.

What I meant before was that the price difference between a liquid cooler and a heatsink fan wasn't a huge difference ($75); The price difference in these graphics cards is significant (roughly $200-250 as far as I can tell).

I have the Noctua NH-D14 on my own PC, and it works great. My CPU right now is 27 C.

rethinking the case too. NZXT 410 looks decent

That is a big change from the Cosmos. It is a mid tower. If you like the look but want to stay with a full tower take a look at the 530. The cool thing about those case, they come in really bold colors.

I was looking at the 10 x 20 x 22"Cosmos SE -- which is listed as a Mid Tower (not the Cosmos II 48lb. Full Tower -- which actually looks awesome but is way, WAY too large for what I need).

The NZXT 410 Phantom case seems a bit narrow at 8.46" though, not sure if a Noctua cooler would fit well (or at all).

edit: Newegg has Cosmos SE advertised as Full Tower, but pcpartpicker has it listed as ATX Mid Tower.

NZXT 410 Phantom: 8.46" x 20.31" x 20.94"
Cooler Master Cosmos SE: 10.4 x 22.4 x 20.6

The Noctua NH-D14 is 160MM tall and requires 6.5 inches above the motherboard(if my memory is correct). The case usually lists the maximum cooler limits in the spec's..

How do I choose Best Answer/Solution? I looked around and didn't see the option anywhere.

Bump before I go to work ...
