im using windows xp sp3 . when i go to windows update the green bar keeps going. i've run the fixit, even then the problem continues.

Windows Update will no longer work for Windows XP from next April 8th... but it may already be going into effect in some editions, license types, or whatever, since you are not the only one having the same problem. So, from next april 8th some security tweaks will have to be done like disabling remote access in the Control Panel \ System \ Remote, disabling some Services like Remote Access & dependant sevices... Server service, Computer Browser, and some other windows services as well as making sure your hard disk drives are not shared (Drive Properties\Sharing tab), Also removing "everyone" from the security tab, essentially removing remote access to your computer, toughen up security and scan everything you download, and being extra careful of what you download and how you install programs and watch what installs with them. Installing a third party firewall may not be a bad idea, and also some real time security programs like Pro edition Malwarebytes, and learning how to be invisible online... if virus and malware can't see your computer online, they can't infect it.
