motherboard supports 32 gigs of ram and dual channel........

does dual channel have ANY negative affect?

and if you put two sticks of 4gig ram and it is dual channel,
will it show in the properties 8 gigs of ram or 8 gigs?

and if it shows 4 gigs is it technically 8?

Dual channel doesn't have any negative effects, it's the standard for ram channeling now adays.

You want to buy ram is Dual Channel sets though (2 sticks), they will be sold as a 4 or 8 or 16 or 32 gb Set, and each stick will have half the sets ram, so 2x2gb 2x4gb 2x8gb 2x16gb.

If it's only showing you 4 gigs, and you're SURE you have 8 gigs installed, something is wrong.

Dual channel can be run with either 2 or 4 sticks (in some instances even 3 ;) ), but generally it's using 2 or 4....DRAM of itself (each stick) is a 64 bit device, when utilized in dual channel the memory sees the DRAM as a single 128 bit device and therefore it operates faster (up to a 10-15% performance increase over Single channel mode)....

That said where does it say you only have 4 GB?
