How to maximize my time on the internet...

So I work 12 hour shifts, and typically spend about 8 of those hours browsing the internet while I have nothing to do. Sadly, after about a year, I'm having trouble finding ways to benefit from all this time I have. I've read a lot of e-books and typically browse upcoming games/twitch/forums (such as this one!). I've decided I want to find something that will benefit me a bit more than watching cat videos, maybe some way of making extra cash, or teaching myself a skill, but have no idea what. I've tried increasing my programming knowledge but working at nights, it just makes me fall asleep... So any suggestions?

A few tens of thousands of back-issues of webcomics...

Or go have a look at Project Euler, which at least gives you goals for programming.

Or just game.

Project Euler actually looks pretty awesome. And I definately would game, but these machines are so limited, and my coworkers typically look down anyone "playing". Thanks for some insight!

I answer phones for a hospital wing, but no one ever really calls at night.

Watch torrent downloads, downloading!

Yes, watch them, if you have an average speed, you'll definitely enjoy!

Find something you enjoy and learn about it, I read wikipedia articles about history and technology.

If there is a field you want to get into, like programming, find a way to learn it that keeps your attention. May as well make the most of your time.

Maybe you need more coffee while programming? Read a book, a good book you cannot put down will take longer to put you to sleep than one you are forcing yourself to read.

Tell your supervisor you have time on your hands and there is a ton of other things you could be doing while you are at work? Data entry, cleaning, etc are just a couple of things that come to mind. And we wonder why it costs $10,000 a day to be in the hospital.
