So I'm getting components together for my brother's new PC, and started to think that a GS600 might be a bit overkill. Here are the specs:

  • Intel Core i5 4430 (using stock cooler)
  • Gigabyte GA-H87N-WIFI
  • Corsair 8GB 1600mhz 1.65V CMX8GX3M2A1600C9
  • Asus R9 270X R9270-DC2OC-2GD5
  • Seagate ST1000DX001 Desktop SSHD 1TB
  • Bitfenix Mini-ITX Chassis (exact one undecided, most likely the Colossus M)

  • The Power Supply doesn't need to be modular, there's enough space to manage the cables.
I was looking at the CX500 and the CX430, so I'm wondering if these would be easily suitable for this system (obviously if the CX430 is good then the CX500 is too), or if I should go for a 600W Power Supply after all.

    Any help is appreciated! :)

    According to here:

    http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm

a system running a single R9 270X GPU requires ~ 500W, so anything in this list should work:

    http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/power-supply/#m=11&W=500,...

Personally, I am hesitant to recommend the Corsair CX series as that is their budget line of PSUs which uses cheaper components (mainly capacitors). However, since the rig you are building doesn't appear to be too demanding, anything on the pcpartpicker list I provided would probably work fine.

If you are not planning to go xfire later, the 500w will be fine.

Oh derp... I meant the 270 not the 270X....
The site is quite good though, but now I do have another question:
The site says 450W Recommended, however do you think the CX430 will cut it or would it not being enough seeing as it's a budget PSU with only 80+ Bronze? I probably won't be overclocking this card

I think it would, being a "bronze" unit has nothing to with that,The r9 270 only requires only one pcie power cable, which it has,and that cpu doesn't use that much power.
Being a "bronze" unit has to do with efficiency i.e. what the pc draws out of the wall socket.

If you're planning on upgrading to a more powerfull gpu later would i get a higher wattage model form a good brand= >500watts with two pcie power cables

Radeon R9-270 needs at least 24 amps on the 12v rail and a 450 watt power supply.

The 12 volt rail is the key , the CX430 or CX500 are both sufficient to run your specs , and have the correct PCIE power connections.
