Hey guys,

Looking for some opinions on these 2 deals about which has the most bang for the buck. It is for my 'Rents-in-Law that need to upgrade from XP.

or

other suggestions are welcome too. I was going to just build them a new one, but considering Windows 7 is $100ish on it's own, it kind of makes sense to just go that route.

I think either would be an overkill for what they use it for, but I'd like to keep futureproffing in mind at least...and they do some work with pictures and videos, but not much in the way of actual editing. Mostly just downloading from their camera and then onto an external HD. Otherwise strictly email, surfing the web, and playing free games like pyramid solitaire and such.

What do we think?

Thanks,
-TG

To be honest both are really bad prices, I understand you are saying Win7 is a bit of money but you can do much better. I really suggest Craigslist I can easily get both those computers for around $50.00 each then buy a Win7 disc for $69-$79.00. Now if you want to just cut it short and sweet then go with the lenovo.

If you still wanted to go the building route, either of these are solid choices.

If you wanted to get a solid, older computer to fix up, search around ebay. You can pick up decent Core 2 Duo systems that really generally only need RAM or a Hard Drive for about $50. DDR2 RAM is quite affordable and the Western Digital drive above is amazing for the price. Examples (not my listings):

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-DC7800-DUAL-CORE-COMPUTER-2-...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Lenovo-Thinkcentre-M57P-C2D...

Add in a copy of Windows 7 and you're all set. In fact the ones above need no parts as far as I can see (did not read descriptions)

My honest recommendations is build them a computer or save them tons with either of those computers up there (maybe add in the 1 TB drive or at least something larger than 80 GB.

Hope I helped and good luck.
