In my settings, I have "Notify me of updates by default" turned off, yet I still get emails every time someone replies to any thread I've posted in. This isn't just threads I've started, but any thread I post in. Can anyone help me figure out how to stop getting emails like this?

When you're posting to a thread, there is a check-box about notifications as well. Make sure to not check that to avoid getting email

I see what my problem was. Instead of clicking on the "Post an answer" button to reply, I was just writing my post in the "Your answer" box at the bottom of the thread. When you do it that way, it doesn't have the checkbox for email notifications, and that way of posting must default to emailing you notifications. I think that's an issue that probably should be addressed, because why would someone click the "Post an answer" button, when they can just write it in the box, unless they're quoting a post?

But anyway, thanks for helping me figure that out. Do you happen to know if there is a way to untrack threads that have already been ignorantly tracked, like I did?

Edit: I see there is a link that says "Stop tracking this thread" in the lower left corner of the original post.

I always use the 'your answer' box, and never get emails or PMs about it.

"Notify me of updates by default" needs to be disabled.

It tracks a thread any time that you post to it; tracking a thread only makes it show up in the box at the top right. You shouldn't get email from it.
