Can you merge an internet connection with a cable connection?

I have Cox internet and DirecTv. Unfortunately we only have so many coax outlets around the house. Is it possible to use a coax joiner to merge both the internet and satellite connections onto the same coax wire and then split them again at the other end? I know this may sound so ridiculous to some of you but hey i was just wondering.

Directtv especially if you use using their single wire solution to run multiple receivers will use up all the available bandwidth. You can many times share the coax with a device called MoCA with a cable modem ...some of the newest cable modem have it built in. Direct tv and many whole house DVR systems do not tolerate other devices on the coax.
