I'm doing some research for a new laptop.

Between the two which would you buy?
NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 870M (6.0GB) vs NVIDIA® Quadro™ K1100M (2.0GB)
I can afford to get one or the other in a new laptop but have no knowledge of video cards.

It would live in:
Sager NP8278-S (Clevo P170SM-A)

Gaming: Geforce.
Professional graphics(Rendering): Quadro.
How come the Geforce has 6GB of vRAM? That's like super-high end RAM.
You might want to consider checking this. A mobile graphics processor won't need so much RAM in any case.

Thanks so much for your feedback.
THe Gforce with 6 GB was an option for the Sager NP8258 / Clevo P157SM-A
Here is a list of some of the choices on LPC digital
http://www.lpc-digital.com/sager-np8258.html

NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 860M 4GB GDDR5 Memory $0.00
NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 870M 6GB GDDR5 Memory $150.00
NVIDIA® Quadro® K1100M Graphics with 2GB GDDR5 - ETA: Mid April 2014 $200.00
AMD Radeon™ R9 M290X with 4GB GDDR5 - ETA Mid April $225.00

I'd say you wait for the m290x.
It's a little costlier than the one you're considering, but it seems more balanced. The 880M is just ludicrous. Even the GTX Titan Black, which is the world's fastest single GPU card, uses 6 GB. Its original card, the 780Ti, used 3 GB. The Titan Black was launched for users who needed large resolution/triple monitor 1080p gaming. For your needs, 2 GB is enough, but 4GB makes a bit of futureproofing.

Tell me one thing though.
Why are you going for such an expensive gaming laptop?
I'm obviously nobody to tell you how to spend your money; but for gaming a desktop is preferable. You'll get much better means for dissipating all the heat the CPU and GPU generate, and desktop GPU's are more powerful as compared to laptop GPU's.

Of course, but if he is like me the laptop goes where I go. That's tough to do even with a SFF desktop.
