Hi there! I just recently got a EVGA 780ti SC and am not sure If I made a mistake or not. It cost me 700 some dollars. I could have gotten the XFX 290 non X DD black edition aftermarket cooler for 470 dollars instead. I only have one of those 144hz asus monitors without g sync. Most of my games are last gen and so I just want at least 60fps so I can use my 144hz monitor some. I also play bf4. Do I need 780ti for 300+ dollars more or should I return it and get the 290? I have an MATX case from Cooler Master, the n200 with 2 intake and 2 exhaust fans. I hear the 290 is a bit hot. Would it be fine in a MATX? Also, the 290 has a lifetime warrenty and 4gb vram and the 780ti has 3 gb vram. What should I do? Thanks.

I second this. Now that you have it, it's probably not worth the hassle of sending it back (which will cost $$). While it's overkill at 1080p for now, you will not have to upgrade your GPU for quite a while :p

Would 3gb of vRam be enough for 3 or 4 more years though with a 1080p monitor? or maybe a 1440p monitor in the future?
VRAM only factors in when dealing with resolution. It's more than enough for 1080p and is definitely enough for 1440p.

I read some where that it has faster 3gb vram then the 290 4gb vram. Example: So would 2gb of 3000mhz vram vs 4 ghz of 1500mhz vram be the same thing? Just curious now.

Its not as simple as that sadly. The memory is used to store the info short term blah blah, But the speed at which is does it dosent necesarily double its performance.

But yes the faster Ti memory does help it out.

Unless you really need to use the $300 you would save right now, there's no point in not getting the 780 Ti. It destroys the R9 290 at 1080p, and even more so at 1440p.

Plus, getting a 4GB card for a single monitor setup is a waste of money.

780 Ti @ 1080p is not overkill at all. I really don't understand why people keep saying this. There are quite a few games that will challenge the card.

OP I would definitely suggest going with the 780 Ti, especially with a 144hz monitor.

There are plenty of cards that can deliver ~60 FPS at 1080p in most every game (GTX 780, R9 290) for significantly less money. I will agree with you that at 144 Hz, the 780 Ti is not overkill (you can benefit from the higher fps).

i think you better buy a gtx 780 ti you will have better performances and more fps, or you can get 100 dollars more so you can buy another r9 290 and crossfire it and have far more perfomances :D

Alright, I ended up with the GTX 780ti SC from EVGA. I got the reference blower and it seems very well built and also the FPS for my 144hz is great. Thanks guys!

Never fear. I have the reference EVGA GTX 780ti SC now with the 3gb VRAM. Seems to be doing great. Looks like about an average of 95 FPS on BF4 with 1080p according to FRAPS. Very happy with that. Heck, I can fully utilize my 144hz monitor for a majority of my games. I just started playing bioshock for the first time so I should be good to go for near 144hz for Bioshock Infinite. Oh and by turning the fan speed up to 65% while playing games, this reference model only gets to 75C temps inside my smaller MATX case. So if anyone was curious while looking at the forum, I recommend it for a N200 MATX case from cooler master.
