Hey there, I'm building my first gaming pc and looking for some tips on the build I have put together.

-I live in Canada, Ontario -Building from scratch ( only reusing windows 7 64 bit from my previous computer ) - I choose a low storage due to having two 1 TB externals -Looking to see if everything is compatible with each other and if everything is the best I can get for the price I want to spend

Thanks for taking the time to look and respond :)  Ominous11

Everything should work great, if your previous computer that your reusing the hard drive from is amd then you will have to reinstall windows, but other than that everything should work flawlessly

Man at $1,400 you can get a lot more performance out of a system:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($254.79 @ DirectCanada)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S 55.0 CFM CPU Cooler ($71.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Motherboard: ASRock Fatal1ty Z87 Killer ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($144.99 @ NCIX)
Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($76.36 @ DirectCanada)
Storage: Crucial M500 240GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($138.88 @ NCIX)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 780 3GB Video Card ($554.98 @ Newegg Canada)
Case: Zalman ZM-Z9 U3 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($79.99 @ Memory Express)
Power Supply: Corsair Professional 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($94.50 @ DirectCanada)
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer ($16.79 @ DirectCanada)
Total: $1433.26
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

The i5 + 780 will last far longer gaming than the i7 will. And at this budget you want a better cooler than the EVO.

Save some money on the CPU cooler and get a coolermaster hyper 212 evo and add an additional fan to it. It will cool every bit as well and cost alot less.

Also, i'd go with the 120GB samsung over the crucial. The crucial SSDs are rock solid, but one of the slower performing SSDs out there.

The Evo isn't worth an extra $40+, especially coming from a slow HDD system. And the 120GB EVO will be slower than the 240GB Crucial because of the controllers. 240 will also give a lot of room for games and programs.

And no, the EVO will not cool as well as the Noctua. It may get close, but the Noctua will be substantially quieter.

Thanks for replying !

You choose the Intel I5 over the I7 that I had chose. Why was that ??
You also downgraded me from 16gb of ram to 8gm and switched brands. Why?

I hope that didn't sound rude I'm just curious and like to learn !! I gamed consoles for years but now I'm into the pc gaming so i'm trying to learn :)

Edit: How will this preform on games like Fry cry 3 GTA 5 Crysis 3 BF4?? On max setting ?

There is 0 performance increase with the extra RAM, and the i5 is only maybe 1% slower in games, but by dropping the ram and CPU, you can get much more performance. Just trying to get you the best performance you can get with your budget, and the i5 + 780 combo will last you a long time for gaming :)

Sounds great to me :)  So all games I should be able to run ultra setting at good frames then ?

Also I was checking reviews and it seems the Samsung evo is much faster and out preforms the crucial SSD you recommend but when I check on part list it said :
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB mSATA Solid State Disk and ASRock Fatal1ty Z87 Killer ATX LGA1150 Motherboard are not compatible.
So do I have no choice to go with the crucial ??.

I have the cash too by this tomorrow but I just don't want any regrets and be like damn I should have bought this over that ! so I appreciate you helping me a lot !

That's the mSATA version, the normal 2.5" SATA drive is fully compatible. The EVO is a great choice :)  The Crucial is just cheaper, and even being slower, is massively faster than a normal HDD.

And definitely will get you amazing performance :)  Especially on games that want tons of GPU power, like Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3. The i5 is also extremely powerful as well, and you'll easily get maxed out settings in BF4 :)
April 9, 2014 7:41:29 AM

OK awesome I'll make the change on the Evo ! and make sure It's the compatible model :)  I have windows 7 pro 64 bit. Should I stick with that or is 8.1 able to give me an edge at all ?

I'm getting this message with listpicker:
Zalman ZM-Z9 U3 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case and Noctua NH-U12S 55.0 CFM CPU Cooler height clearance could not be verified.

Do you know if this is true and if so should I go about a different case or a different HSF ?

Thanks,
Ominous11

If you already have Windows, I don't think it's worth the $100 to upgrade to 8.1. You'll get less overhead and a little bit better gaming performance, but not $100 worth in my opinion.

The U12S is perfectly able to fit in the Z9 :)  PCPartPicker is in the process of adding clearance compatibility, but it's not fully implemented yet.
