Hi all. I am in the process or trying to rebuild my desktop with some updates. My hopes are to use as many of my existing components to reduce cost and stay under $4-500 budget. I want opinions on what components are worth reusing and which definitely need replacing with suggestions. I can reuse the case but ideally would like to shrink the case down and have even considered miniATX or Micro ITX. I primarily would use this PC for gaming (Diablo 3 currently, borderlands 2, and ideally some level of future proofing for reasonably high settings on a 23" monitor).

My current rig (7.5 years old):

Case: Cooler Master Ammo 533

MB: Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.00 GHz

PSU: 500W (don't have the exact one in front of me, need to pull to see)

GPU: GeForce 8800 GTX

HDD: WDC WD1600JS 160GB

other optional parts: two optical drives (1 dvd, 1 cd), RAM needs upgrading i suspect

Those are the primary components. I greatly appreciate any help and offering. I've tried looking around but trying to ensure my components would work with certain pieces is beyond me. I'm hopeful the helpful people here can at least point me in a good starting direction.

Thanks!

THE BAD NEWS: Almost none of that can be used on a new build Even the dvd is probly not salvageable, as it is probably IDE. .
THE GOOD NEWS: $500 will get you a very decent build.
