Hello. I really want to play some new games like COD BO2, Assassin's Creed, and other stuff. But the bad thing is, my CPU is so crappy so i wanna get a new one that is cheap, that can play these new games.. Here are my specs:

CPU: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5400 @ 2.70GHz
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce GT 520
RAM: 6 GB
OS: Windows 7 64-bit Home Edition

Thanks

Along with a new CPU you should also get a new video card. A GTX 750 Ti can play games on fairly good settings at 1080p.

I would get a new build with a FX 6300 for games coming up.

You could go with a newer i series intel or an AMD FX, but that would require a motherboard upgrade. You could probably upgrade your current CPU without upgrading the motherboard to a Core 2 Quad QX9650, which is still OK for gaming. Please check to make sure your current motherboard can handle the QX9650, but most mtoherboards that support Pentium Dual Cores will also support the QX9650.

Yes, you can run the QX9650, however you will need to install a bios update which is available for download on Dell's website.

just wondering, did you guys see a budget? it just seems a little odd that you would suggest the athlon x4 750k... i think am3+ would make more sense cuz an equally strong cpu on am3+ is only about $20 more, and it is upgradable... also, i dont think core 2 quad would be that good, sense the price of i5's has come down so much... but either way it would be a nice upgrade, however i would suggest getting the fx 4300 or higher on am3+

I didn't see a budget but the OP said cheap , so I imagine they didn't wanna spend much, I agree the AM3+ is the better upgrade path. Ideally an unlocked i5+z77/z87 mobo, but...many people just starting out building their pc's don't seem to want to spend that much.

FX6300 6 core cpu + Asus r2.0 970 (NOT LE version, it has no VRM heatsinks...)

If your budget is truly stuck at 100, that sucky gt520 is holding you back WAY more than your cpu would...get a HD7770 or HD7750 (slightly weaker but doesn't need power supply plug) or GTX 750 superclocked (Also doesn't need power supply plug)

then when you can, a core 2 quad is cheap on ebay, or at the very least a higher clocked core 2 duo, but don't expect too much. Save up for an Athlon x4 750k (often recommended by tom's hardware in their best gaming cpu's for the money) and cheapish but decent fm2 or fm2+ motherboard at the least....Ideally on a budget though you'd want haswell i3 or AMD FX6300 6 core

there's no getting around it, your setup is very obsolete, but, getting a 100 dollar graphics card can extend it's life, and you can use the new GPU in your new build later on.

You can often find the HD7770 GHZ edition under $100 too, yesterday newegg had the r7 265 or r7 260 for like 80 bucks after rebate

or hit up the deals section here, some guy is selling a gtx 560 for 60 bucks and a fx4100 and mobo combo for only 60 bucks, even that would chump your current setup (no offence just facts)

Core 2 Quads aren't worth buying new and the price is so low that it's totally worth getting. Of course it'll be slower than today's i3's and FX 4300's but it's going to be a nice upgrade. It is faster than some of today's lower end processors especially when overclocked. And he needs a new graphics card too.
