I was wondering if you guys know of what the cheapest type of clear rigid material is? My
sister is doing a project for school where she needs something clear to hold water in. Also if you know a cheap place to buy or get this material that would be great also. thanks a lot

Look into 'Plexiglas'

Plexiglass can be found at many home supply stores (Lowes, Home Depot). You might also find smaller pieces at craft stores (Michaels, Hobby Lobby).

Of course, there is also glass. How much water (how big a container) does she have to hold?

^Everyone's pretty much got it covered. Plexiglass/Acrylic is inexpensive and relatively easy to work with. Home supply stores will have larger sheets, and I've had great luck with the following at $3 per 12x8" sheet:

...I've gone through probably 20 sheets or so with a commercial CO2 laser cutter. If eBay is out of the question, then stop by Lowes and see if they have anything - it's quite a bit more expensive, but I've picked up supplies from there as well.
