Im intending to change my mobo and cpu to upgrade my rig. Pairing with a gtx 650 and a cooler master thunder m 420w psu.

The 3350p does use lower power which is good since my psu has only 420w but the amd is cheaper. I think both systems are able to be run with 420w but overclocking might be an issue. I am hoping for the cpu and mobo to last at least 2-3 years. might change gpu and psu in 1-2 years so overclocking then is an option.

The i5 3350P is better even though it's a quad-core CPU. 99% of games don't use more than 4 cores in a CPU, and the i5 has better performance per core. If you're doing video-editing the extra cores with the FX could come in handy, though personally I would choose Intel's i5.

The i5 can't be overclocked, but the power that comes with it is more than enough to power your computer for at least 2 years.

Why don't you grab a i5-4440, that way you could get a LGA 1150 mobo and a newer generation cpu? Should be about the same price. I would go for the i5 over the fx 6300, especially if you don't plan to overclock

I could get the 4440 but my intention is to hopefully hold till ddr4 so the 1150 mobo would have to be replaced anyway. Though if the performance increase is worth the price then it can be considered.

Total power of the two cpu's is probably very close . The intel will be better in lightly threaded situations . They will be about the same in demanding games

And the AMD is much cheaper and can be overclocked , unlike the intel which is locked

It'd be better to get the i5-3350P if you're just holding off until DDR4. There is barely any difference between the 3350P and the 4440, if any. They are both powerful CPUs.
