High CPU Core Temps 80C - Motherboard Utility says 45C

Which figure do I watch to see if my CPU is overheating?

Hi!

I have an AMD A10-5800K CPU. HWMonitor reports my CPU Package temperatures at very high levels, sometimes reaching 80C in moderate/light use, and topping at 90C. The motherboard utilities state that my CPU is far lower, at around 30-45C.

AMD Overdrive reports really weird temps, it is saying 50-70C thermal margin. (???)

What is the difference here? Which figure should I watch?

Thank you for any help!

So if the max is 72C... does that mean that the system will shutdown when it reaches that? Meaning that my CPU really hitting 90C is not true?

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it!

If you haven't overclocked, and all of the safety features of the CPU haven't been turned off, yes it should shut down... It should also downclock it self to keep it at safe temperatures...
