Can electric guitars work on a computer sound card?

like asus sound cards like this- Asus Essence STX II 7.1 http://www.asus.com/Sound_Cards_and_DigitaltoAnalog_Converters/Xonar_Audio_Cards_Essence_Series_Products/

it's just an example,my concern is if i buy a suond card for the guitar,just for it like this one- http://www.presonus.com/products/TubePre-V2 wil it work for gaming,movies and so on can i use it for everithing else? not just plaing a guitar?
i want to use only (for now ) headphones.and the one i chose is the beyerdynamics t70

Your linked item is a pre-amp for an instrument amplifier. It isn't a "sound card". They have different inputs. Plus a computer sound card is designed to receive it's power from a PCI slot.

Sorry. They aren't the same thing.
