Hello,

My old standard Dell XPS 420 computer finally gave up after 8 solid years which means I'm in the market for another. I loved my old one and am looking for something similar. Maybe slightly better as much as happened in the world of computer parts over the last 8 years. My computer ran with a 2.4Ghz processor, 4GB of RAM and a RADEON 3870 x2. (I think) It ran every game fine over the years, but I had to play Diablo III in the lowest possible settings. (Which is a shame as it's the only game I play now)

I'm asking you friendly people for advice because I have no real idea how to select which parts that fit my needs. The few things I do know and would like in my PC are the following:

- At least 6GB of RAM (or 4 with the option to upgrade)
- A good enough graphics card & Processor to run Diablo III at normal settings. (3.0 GHZ +?)
- To be able to work with several programs and browsers open and not noticeably feel my computer slowing down. (This was the case with my Dell, but I think any new computers wont have this problem at all?)
- Good enough quality parts to last me for another 6 to 8 years
- Not to have the computer overheat nor too many fans that I hear the fans constantly (I play maybe 1 hour of games a day, during which it's okay to hear the fan a bit, just not during work)

- To be able to plug in my 5.1 Audio surround system
- 1 TB HDD storage, Windows 7, CD/DVD Player / burner
- 1 SD Card slot, 3x USB, headphones / mic Jack, Ethernet, DVI/HDMI/VGA slots

I reckon this should be possible for around 600 dollars? If I'm talking madness here please do let me know :) Any advice would be very welcome!

Cheers,

Thomas.

I've been looking at pre-built PC's but haven't found anything in my price range that springs out. I'm from the Netherlands so I won't have access to US stores, however my local computer shop can order most parts, it's just that they push their parts (sponsored no doubt) which are more expensive than what I find online.

As such I'm not going to build my own computer but will order the parts and hand them to an expert to build for me. All I know about parts is what pcpartpicker tells me.

I'd also rather get a new case to have everything new. I know it's annoying for me to ask you to search on my behalf, but it is possible to get a computer that fulfills my needs for under 600 dollars? The whole shebang included (case, cooler, cpu, motherboard, videocard, memory, storage, power supply, optical drive, windows 7).

And do I need a CPU cooler or is that only for heavy gaming builds?

Thanks.
