U = super high energy saving cpu (runs at very low Watts) mainly found in Laptops designed for company employees (so they don't brake them to quickly lol)
Not for home use, only work related cpu.
I have ordered a Lenovo X240, with an i5 4300u (runs at 1.9GHz with a boost till 2.9GHz) for a staff member recently.

? i5 4300u $281 (as of Feb 2014) i wouldnt call this mid range since it has Hyper threading, yes it's duel core but it's made for thinkpads, check out the X240.

To be honest, I wouldn't purchase that laptop. The CPU is a poor performer and since the CPU socket is BGA, you cannot upgrade it later, as the CPU is soldered in with the motherboard. For comparisons sake, my father's laptop which runs an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 is better than that processor; and we all know Core 2 Duo's are already dated.

But as mentioned earlier by EdwardElric, the U denotes that it's only for lower Thermal Design Power (TDP, i.e. requires less electricty.) Other than that, it's the same as the N2920.

All the best.

Then I would look for a used laptop with at least a sandy bridge i3 or i5. As mentioned earlier, even a core 2 based one would be better performance.

In my place 2nd laptop are hard to find....i already find some it but the condition are worst. my budget also are tight try to look for a price range between 300 to 500 bucks. right now my option are Asus X200MA-KX044D, lenovo flex 10, hp mini 1000 series or maybe lenovo S210 series that came with i3.....the hp mini 1000 came with amd processor......but i had an experience once with amd e1-1200 that came with windows 8 and it was slugish....
