Data recovery after formatting and copying new data

My pocket hard drive has been formatted and copied new data on it by my colleague. As my data were there which was lost after he formatted the disk. I tried 3 times to recover data by using data recovery software but after scanning it always shows new data which were copied after formatting.
Can anybody tell me how can i recover my old data?

You can't recover data that's been overwritten with new data, as has happened in your case. You should have backed up the data to a second drive instead of relying on a single one.
