Hey guys, was just putting up a quick build for my father, who wanted something newer to browse the net and stuff.. and after I finished a rough build, he decided he wants a tiny desktop case, which only fits an SFX psu.

Sadly, the SFX market here sucks, so the only branded PSU I can get my hands on by the time he wants it, is a Seasonic SS-350SFE 350W.

The comp list is as follows:
Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33
CPU: Intel Core i3-4130
RAM: Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB DDR3 1600
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 - 500GB
No drive
No GFX (will be added later though, possibly along with a sound card)

So the question is, would the PSU be alright now? Would it be alright with a mid-tier GFX added?
Or is there an alternative to this case which could accomodate a normal ATX PSU?

Of course, tweaks and suggestions are always welcome!

Paul

With 2 x +12V rails rated at 18A each and good for 312W, that PSU should be fine for what you want to do. And it will handle most 75W graphic cards. I have a HTPC running the TFX version of that Seasonic PSU. 125W Phenom II X4 3.4GHZ, 60W GTX 750 TI OC card. There's still room to spare on the +12V rail when it comes to power consumption for me.

Lovely, thanks for the quick reply!

Seeing the Phenom in your build, I gotta ask.. off the top of your head, can you think of a counterpart from AMD that would outshine the 4130, around the same price range? I don't have much experience with new AMD's, was brought up in a home where it was a swearword ಥ﹏ಥ

Here's a Gaming CPU Hierarchy Chart you can use to get a feel for where the various CPUs rate with each other. My Phenom II X4 would be in the same tier (for gaming) as the newer FX-43xx and FX-63xx processors. Just slightly above your FX-4130. Of course, they are based on different architectures.

Gotcha, granted I was talking about the i3-4130, not AMD's FX-4130.. Nevertheless, you've been a tremendous help, everything seems to be working flawlessly so far ^_^

The only minor issue was fitting the PSU into the case, whoever designed it seems to have forgotten about all the cables coming out of a supply.

Once again though, thanks!

Duh... I must have had my head up my butt when I answered that one. Of course you were. Sorry. I'm just getting over the flu. I'll blame it on that ;)
