I have an older i7 desktop. I am tired of watching my computer while the screen updates my Autodesk software. Any suggestions on better components would be great. I have:
i7 920@2.67 GHz
9 GIG DDR3 1066 MHz
1 T SATA 7200 hard drive
NVIDIA GTX260

My desktop was a DELL XPS so I have a large chasis I could swap stuff out versus buy all new.

SSD would be the main suggestion.

So will that speed up what I have? The computer performance test does say the hard drive is the slowest component. How about the rest of my components?

Rest of your stuff is reasonable, though I'd consider a new GPU at some point too.

SSDs greatly speed up access times, which is probably what you're waiting on for the updates.

I am thinking I will probably get a whole new setup with a solid state drive since by the time I start replacing parts I will probably be close to the cost of a new machine. I do have a 2011 dell laptop with 12 Gig ram that I will look at replacing my drive to SSD since it has newer components. Thanks for the good advice!
