I'm looking for a new gaming headset, and I would like it to have 7.1 surround sound. I'm looking to spend no more than £80, and I want it to be comfy and provide good quality. However I was also looking into the possibility of using a stereo headset and a sound card? How would this work?

I had a pair of Plantronics Gamecom 780's ,but they broke, so not really wanting another pair

Thanks

I have the Plantronic Gamecom 780's and have had them for about 2 years. They're starting to go out, but honestly, they're amazing; especially for the price. The sound is crisp and has the option to switch to Music and Gaming/Movie. I personally can't tell the difference, to tell you the truth, but it's good quality either way. The mic is great too, it picks up even really quiet sounds, which could be a good or bad thing, depending on your situation. I'm thinking about buying another set after mine finally die. Although, I may go with a more expensive brand. I actually purchased a pair for my friend and got another friend to buy a pair as well. I have heard about people having theirs break due to a "cheap build" but it hasn't even feigned any signs of stress on any parts of it. I treat them well and in return they treat me well. My only real problem with them is the comfortability. They are a little snug on my head and after long periods of gaming, they can start to hurt a little. The cables are really strong, so that's a plus. It's only got 6.5 ft. of length, though, which was a downside for me. In all, I would completely recommend them if your budget is around that as I don't see much of a difference until 180-200. Even then, it seems it's more for audiophiles than anything.

Hope this helps.

Heya I just ordered a pair of V-moda M-100's with the attachable Boom Pro Microphone for my new setup I will be using these with an Asus Thunderbolt Audio card that came with my motherboard.. it is not as good as the Newer standalone cards but has the xear sourround options like they do ...not sure what your budget is but I can let u know how they work out with the virtual surround ...usuallydiscrete surround (hardware in the drivers) sacrifices sound quality for positioning. I will put some links here so u can get info on the v-modas as it would take forever to write out the virtues. They are very durable tho and sound awesome and that mic turns them into a gaming headset for a mere 30 bucks=win.

You can find the products on amazon also if you are outside the USA and don't want duty or anything. If you are located in the US the direct purchasing option has custom engraving of additional side plates for free I think wich is pretty pimp. I am in Canada so I bought mine from http://www.headphonebar.com/v-moda-m100/

Hope this Helps I will do a follow up post this week and add some insight.

Chris.
