i currently have a i5-2300 oc 3.10ghz and a i5-2500k oc 4 ghz system i use both of them for coding and heavy gaming ... i was thinking about upgrading my question is is this the right time to upgrade or should i wait a little longer for a newer generation of intel cpus ....

You really don't need to upgrade a 2500k, particularly when the Sandy Bridge line is still considered the best for overclocking. Mine's at 4.4Ghz on air cooling and doesn't exceed 70C; good luck trying to get that on Haswell.

The 2500k is a gem and will probably still be good for a few years.

Good shout. Unfortunately it seems people have caught on to these xeons now, used prices have shot up in the uk :(

I can understand on the price side, but a Xeon will game just as well as an i7. The E3 1230 is nothing more than an i7 without IGP and added support for server components. The 1230v2 would game just as well as an i7 3770, just as a 1230v3 would game just as well as a 4770. Just because it is a Xeon, don't think it can't game. ;)

You prob just need to add some voltage or LLC level. But 4Ghz on stock voltage is decent. You will need a better cooler than the stock intel cooler though.

Do you happen to have a guide or any information for me to get to 4.4 on air like you do? I also have a 2500k and I'm starting to finally look into overclocking it. Thanks!

Dude I dont think u should oc unless u really need it.. Gonna damage ur processor... And for 4.7 ghz u need a watercooled loop... On air even with a hyper 212 ur gonna risk ur processor
