Go with the 4670k as its already very popular among the Intel Gaming community an will serve you well. As others have stated the 4690k will likely only improve on it's IGPU which will not serve any purpose when you already have a dedicated GPU. Plus, as it's new hardware I'm almost positive the 4670k will be cheaper.

will see how much each will cost after the new i5 is available, probably will go with the 4690k as i am planing on getting a GPU a while after 3-4 months, cuz all the good GPU's are sold out where i live and amazon is too much trouble with paying customs and duties and so on

Now now, that's entirely untrue if you're a gpgpu programmer trying to optimize software by offloading floating point operations or matrix transforms to the GPU. My God Microsoft Excel solvers and simulation engines optimized with a gpgpu back-end...orgasmic.

AM3+ is not going to see any new CPU's. It is a dead platform just like Intel's 1155 is. If you want upgrade options, you have to go with an 1150 i5/i7/Xeon E3, and an H97 or Z97 board.( Z97 if overclocking and/or want SLI/CF support. )

logainofhades is absolutely correct. The only reason why people by an fx8320 is because it is a lot cheaper. However, if you have the money, go with Intel.

I think you should go with the 4670k with a z97 motherboard if you are overclocking. If not going for high overclocks, you can do z87 just fine (I have heard z97 is better for overclocking, trusted reviewers keep talking about it). The thing about the 4x90k new cpus, is that they are overpriced. From places i have seen it, ever single refresh is a good 10-20% more expensive(depends on what cpu) than its haswell equivalent.

If price is a factor - go 4670k, if overclocking go with 4670k and z97
If price is not a factor - go 4690k, and this time you will need z97 as the z87 series does not support refresh yet.

Same price on newegg
4690k http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117372&cm_re=i5_4690k-_-19-117-372-_-Product
4670k http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116899&cm_re=4670k-_-19-116-899-_-Product
Both priced at 239.99$

You should absolutely wait for the i5-4690k. Not only will it have 10% CPU speed increase over the older processor (for the same price), but the Thermal Insulation material (TIM) is much improved and will allow for much better overclocking - way better than any other Ivy Bridge processor and on a par with the older Sandy Bridge processors.

At the same price - He definitely should get the 4690k if he can wait - no brainer...
However pricing around other places than america really suck. I was getting all hyped, but then i saw a whopping 20% increase in price of the chip i wanted, and then i decided that buying a cooler would be better and cheaper.

I dont own any of them - 4670k or 4690k, but where i live, the 4690k is almost as much as a 4770k - so yea, you can see the difference on where you live - also i think prices are quite fair here - it doesnt quite go for dollar to the valuta, but more after what is most popular and has the best performance :)

BlackSkull6, where you live, if the price is almost the same - go for the 4690k/wait for it.
